About

We love our Mile Square Pizza City!  So many great choices and thus the debates never end:  who makes the BEST pie?!?  The answer is never easy, no matter how you slice it.  But trying to get to the bottom of it becomes a very tasty assignment.

We started the Pizza Derby in 2008.  The competition of horse racing is intense, but pizza inevitably leaves a better taste in our mouths.  In creating the Pizza Derby we give all our participants the chance to offer up their suggestions to add to the menu mix:

What is your FAVORITE pie from your FAVORITE pizzeria in town?  Go to the Fan Faves page to offer up your suggestions…

When we put them to the test in the Pizza Derby we order simultaneous WAVES of pizza pies – 4-6 at a time. The pizzas are then “scored” by criteria such as arrival time, temperature, crust, sauce, freshness of toppings etc.  When we first did this in 2007 we started with 3 pizzerias.  2013 is the 5th Annual (sorta) event.  Now we’ve made it into a fund- and friendraiser, with all proceeds going to benefit local charities here in Hoboken.  Suggested donation levels are $25 per adult and $10 per kid.

Hoboken Native and local celebrity Heat Miser joined in this year's fun. The red device in her left hand is an infrared heat gun, used to gauge the arrival temperature of each pie.
